Teams Preparing For Second-Round Of Iowa High School Football Playoffs

Thirteen Cedar Valley Sports teams survived the first-round of the Iowa High School football playoffs Wednesday night (October 29, 2014). Now, they're preparing for Monday's second-round games.

Two local teams in different classes will be playing on the road, just miles from each other in Cedar Rapids. Cedar Falls continues its quest for the Class-4A state crown, playing Cedar Rapids Washington at Kingston Stadium. Waverly-Shell Rock plays its Class-3A second-round game at Cedar Rapids Xavier.

Another 3A game Monday night features West Delaware hosting Solon in Manchester.

There's a head-to-head match-up of Cedar Valley Sports teams in Class-2A. Union welcomes the Chickasaws of New Hampton to La Porte City. The 2A slate also includes North Fayette Valley hosting Mount Vernon.

In Class-1A, Dike-New Hartford is going to the Rose Bowl. However, it's not the famous college stadium in Pasedena, California. Instead, it's the Little Rose Bowl in West Branch -- home of the Bears.

Three of the top four teams in Class-A District Four survived the first-round Wednesday night. District champion Gladbrook-Reinbeck hosts B-G-M of Brooklyn at "The Pit" in Gladbrook, while Denver – the No. 3 seed – plays Maquoketa Valley in Delhi. District runner-up AGWSR plays at Nashua-Plainfield in another match-up of Cedar Valley Sports teams.

Monday's night eight-player schedule features defending champion Don Bosco hosting Turkey Valley of Jackson Junction in Gilbertville. Third-ranked Janesville is playing at home against H-L-V of Victor.

The second-round playoff games all begin at 7 p.m. on Monday. The winners advance to quarterfinal games on Friday, November 7th.
