A few days ago, The Weeknd donated $50,000 to the University of Toronto for a new Ethiopic Studies program. Now, the Canadian singer is giving $250,000 to Black Lives Matter, according to multiple sources.

Black Lives Matter has a branch in The Weeknd's native Toronto. According to its website, Black Lives Matter is "a chapter-based national organization working for the validity of Black life. We are working to (re)build the Black liberation movement."

After the police killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile in July, The Weeknd tweeted, "Enough is enough. It’s time to stand up for this. We can either sit and watch, or do something about it. The time is now." In case you missed it, check out how hip-hop reacted to the killings of both Sterling and Castile.

In other Weeknd-related news, the 26-year-old artist is set to perform at the inaugural Meadows Music and Arts Festival in New York City on Oct. 1 and 2. Other big-name artists including Kanye West, Chance The Rapper, Mac Miller, Bryson Tiller and Pusha T will also hit the stage at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens.

In May, The Weeknd and Belly backed out of a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live after they learned that presidential candidate Donald Trump would be a guest on the same night. Belly told the Associated Press, “I feel like the way I was raised was to be able to see through all the titles in this world — from religion to race. I just didn’t want to feel like I was a part of a celebration for somebody who has beliefs that majority of us don’t agree with.”
