Iowa is full of historic places, but this one is the oldest of its kind in the ENTIRE WORLD. How cool is that?

Located in Washington, south of Iowa City, the State Theatre (which began as the New Graham Opera House in 1893) is the oldest continually-running theatre in the world, playing movies since 1897! It was officially certified by The Guinness Book of World Records in April 2016.

The State Theatre was damaged by fire back in 2010, but reopened in 2011, restored to capture a vintage 1940s feel.

Despite some new, modern touches, visiting the State truly feels like taking a trip back in time to the golden age of film. This lavish gold curtain is raised before every showing.

I can't believe I never knew about this place before! I definitely want to go and check out a movie sometime. I smell a road trip.
