Several rivers in northeast Iowa are being forced out of their banks after several days of heavy rainfall.

Flood warnings are posted for several locations. The rising water, combined with saturated ground and the threat for more rain, has also prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flood watch for a large part of the region through Wednesday (Sept. 5, 2018).

Here are the flood warnings are currently posted for northeast Iowa:

CEDAR RIVER

At Cedar Falls:
* Until early Sunday morning.
* At 2:45 AM Tuesday, the stage was 91.5 feet, or 3.5 feet above Flood Stage.
* Flood Stage is 88.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and is forecast to continue.
* Forecast: Rise to 92.6 feet, or 4.6 feet above Flood Stage, Wednesday afternoon, then go below Flood Stage early Sunday morning.
* Impact...At 92.2 feet, water is in southeast corner of Gateway Park.

At Waterloo to Spring Creek near La Porte City:
* Until early Friday morning.
* At 3:00 AM Tuesday, the stage was 13.4 feet, or 0.4 feet above Flood Stage.
* Flood Stage is 13.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and is forecast to continue.
* Forecast: Rise to 15.5 feet, or 2.5 feet above Flood Stage, Wednesday evening, then fall below Flood Stage early Friday morning.
* Impact: At 13.0 feet, Many storm sewers are closed along Black Hawk Creek and the Cedar River. The Fletcher Avenue levee gates are closed.

At Vinton:
* Until Friday evening.
* At 9:15 PM Monday, the stage was 13.9 feet and rising.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* No flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast: Rise above flood stage Tuesday and continue rising to 17.0 feet Thursday morning. The river will fall below flood stage Friday evening.
* Impact: At 15.0 feet, Minor Flood Stage. Agricultural and low land flooding is ongoing. Water affects much of 22nd Avenue Road northwest of Vinton.

BLACK HAWK CREEK

At Hudson to the Cedar River in Waterloo:
* Until Thursday morning.
* At 2:45 AM Tuesday, the stage was 15.2 feet, or 1.2 feet above Flood Stage.
* Flood Stage is 14.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and is forecast to continue.
* Forecast: Rise to 15.6 feet, or 1.6 feet above Flood Stage, Tuesday afternoon, then go below Flood Stage Thursday morning.
* Impact: At 15.5 feet, Ranchero Road in Waterloo is under water.

WAPSIPINICON RIVER

At Independence:
* Until Friday morning.
* At 8:30 PM Monday the stage was 11.3 feet and rising.
* Flood stage is 12.0 feet.
* No flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast: Rise above flood stage Tuesday morning and continue rising to 14.8 feet Wednesday morning. The river will fall below flood stage Friday morning.
* Impact: At 14.0 feet, water affects residences and streets in low-lying areas of Independence and Littleton.

IOWA RIVER

From Le Grand to Belle Plaine:
* Until Thursday evening.
* At 3:00 AM Tuesday the stage was 12.2 feet, or 0.3 feet below Flood Stage.
* Flood Stage is 12.5 feet.
* No flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast: Rise to Flood Stage Tuesday morning.
* Impact: At 12.5 feet, backwater from the Iowa River covers portions of Business U.S. Highway 30 and South Prospect Drive in Toledo.

TURKEY RIVER

At Spillville:
* Through Wednesday morning or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 4:30 AM Tuesday the stage was 9.4 feet.
* Flood stage is 9.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 9.7 feet by Tuesday morning. The river will fall below flood stage later in the day on Tuesday.

At Garber:
* Through Friday morning or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 4:15 AM Tuesday the stage was 17.9 feet.
* Flood stage is 17.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast: The river will continue rising to near 22.0 feet by Wednesday morning, then fall below flood stage Thursday.
* Impact: At 19.0 feet, County Road X3C at the south end of Garber becomes inundated.

At Elkader:
* Through Friday morning or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 3:45 AM Tuesday the stage was 13.5 feet.
* Flood stage is 12.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast: The river will continue rising to near 17.8 feet by Wednesday morning, then fall below flood stage Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, several rounds of thunderstorms with potential heavy rainfall are again expected Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday evening over most of the region.

With most of the area already saturated from recent rainfall, a flash flood watch has been posted for a number of counties through Wednesday afternoon or evening. The following counties are subject to possible flash flooding: Allamakee, Benton, Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Chickasaw, Clayton, Delaware, Fayette, Floyd, Franklin, Grundy, Hardin, Howard, Tama and Winneshiek.

The rising water has forced the closure of several area parks. The list includes: Black Hawk Park near Cedar Falls, George Wyth State Park in Waterloo-Cedar Falls; and Deerwood Park in Evansdale.
