Just days after Zayn Malik announced his departure from One Direction, Radar Online is reporting that the singer may have actually been fired from the group.

A source connected to the upper management for the band tells the outlet that the 22-year-old singer was given an ultimatum to clean up his act or head home. “He chose not to get clean and that is when they parted ways,“ the insider reveals.

Concerns over Malik’s drug and alcohol abuse first came under scrutiny when a video surfaced in May 2014 of him smoking what appeared to be marijuana. Speculation has continued over the last year as Malik became increasingly gaunt.
