Waterloo Man Finds Artillery Projectile In Garage Wall

A Waterloo man dismantling his garage made a surprising discovery. He found what looked to be a large artillery projectile inside a wall on Saturday (Aug. 6, 2016).

Police were sent to 333 Cutler St. around 2 p.m. after they received a 911 call. The man told officers that he was taking out the back wall of his detached garage, when he noticed what appeared to be a bullet about the size of a human arm.

The Waterloo police bomb squad was then called to the scene to examine the device. After further investigation, members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit determined the projectile was 76 millimeters in size. According to officers, the military shell had been there for a considerable amount of time and contained no explosives or hazardous materials.

The projectile was seized by EOD officers to be turned over to military personnel, which police said is protocol.

Since it's unknown who placed the projectile in the garage wall, no charges were filed.
