A Waterloo woman is charged with first-degree murder in a homicide case that's more than five months old.

Danaesha Martin, 22, was arrested in Norfolk, Va., on Tuesday (Nov. 13, 2018). Waterloo police believe she played a role in the shooting death of her cousin, 22-year-old Shavondes Martin, who's body was found in an alley between South and Washington Streets on May 31. An autopsy determined he died of gunshot wounds.

Waterloo police said they learned on Thursday that Danaesha Martin was in Norfolk, Va. They obtained an arrest warrant, then contacted the United States Marshals Service for assistance in located her. With the help of Norfolk police, she was taken into custody without incident on Tuesday.

The murder of Shavondes Martin remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact Waterloo police.
