It doesn't look or feel like it, but the Spring Equinox arrives in a week, even after Mother Nature dumped several inches of new snow across Northeast Iowa.


As much as 9 to 10 inches of snow is being reported over portions of Black Hawk County.

The Bremer County Sheriff has reported at least 8 inches of snow was deposited overnight.

Some motorists, apparently looking more forward to spring driving conditions, have forgotten some of their winter driving skills: 11 vehicles were involved in accidents or have slid off into ditches in Bremer County.

In the Waterloo area, at least 22 accidents have been reported. No serious injuries have been noted.

Many area schools cancelled classes for the day.

In other winter storm totals: rural Fayette reported nearly 8 inches; Charles City also reporting just shy of 8 inches; Oelwein got another 7 inches; and Waukon received 6 inches of snow overnight Sunday into Monday morning.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Northeast Iowa until 1pm today, with another inch of snow possible.

Spring officially begins next Monday, March 20th, at exactly 5:29am, Iowa time.
