Waterloo police are still trying to figure out exactly what happened early Sunday morning in Waterloo that led to the death of 25-year-old Micalla Rettinger. The former UNI softball player, who was driving home from a weekend job at Mulligan's in Cedar Falls at approximately 2:30 Sunday morning, was shot and killed after a bullet came through the window of the SUV she was driving.

Micalla's boyfriend, Adam Kimball, also employed by Mulligan's was in the vehicle with her, along with a friend, and Adam and Micalla's dog "King" when the shooting occurred. Kimball was struck above the mouth by the same bullet that struck Rettinger. He posted a loving tribute to Micalla early this morning that read in part, "I will forever be thankful for the time I was fortunate enough to spend with her, and forever wish it never came to an end." The full post is below.

In this heart-wrenching video from NBC's Today Show, Kimball remembers what happened inside the vehicle and Micalla's dad reflects on his daughter and the last time he saw her.
