A Hazleton man has been found guilty of sexually touching a child under the age of 14.

Joseph Banks, 35, formerly of Quasqueton, was sentenced to a 10-year prison term in Buchanan County District Court on Tuesday (May 8, 2018).

Banks was convicted of lascivious acts with a child last summer. According to the Buchanan County Attorney's Office, the charge arose from an incident on Nov. 4, 2016, in which Banks "fondled or touched the genitals of a child under the age of 14 for the purpose of sexual gratification".

After completing his prison sentence, Banks will required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. He also must complete sex offender treatment, submit a physical specimen for DNA profiling and pay various civil penalties.
