A Cedar Falls man is accused of a recent robbery at a local jewelry store.

Police took Carlos Gonzalez, 33, into custody on Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2018). He's charged with first-degree robbery in connection with a Jan. 22 hold-up at Kay Jewelers, 306 E. Viking Road.

According to information released by police following the hold up, a man armed with a knife entered the store with a weapon and demanded money and jewelry. The suspect then used pepper spray on the employees, before fleeing on foot.

On Tuesday, officials confirmed that Gonzalez has been charged with the crime. He was being held at the Black Hawk County jail.

Cedar Falls police said they found out that Gonzalez had been in the local Kay Jewelers days before the robbery. According to investigators, a vehicle belonging to Gonzalez matches the description of one that was captured on video by a surveillance camera in the area.

Authorities executed a warrant to search Gonzalez's residence at 1203 Tremont St in Cedar Falls. Police said the search turned up jewelry and other evidence that matched witness statements taken the night of the robbery.
