Springville Ends North Tama’s Season At State Tournament

Springville ended North Tama's first ever visit to the Iowa High School Volleyball State Tournament early during the Class 1A quarterfinal round.

Springville beat North Tama 3-0 during the opening round of the Class 1A 2017 Iowa High School Volleyball State Tournament. The Redhawks ended their 2017 season with a 29-8 record.

North Tama looked tight as the first game began. It wasn't until late in the opening set that the the Redhawks relaxed and starting playing volleyball like the way that helped them earn a spot in state tournament field. Springville used that slow start to jump out to the early lead and cruise to the 25-15 win.

North Tama was more relaxed and competitive throughout the entire second set. The Redhawks kept even with Springville. Springville started to pull away and jumped out to a 24-18 lead.. North Tama rallied, but still lost game two, 25-21.

The Orioles came out strong to start the third set jumping out to a 7-3 lead. That's when North Tama called a time out. After that, the Redhawks stayed within three points throughout the middle of game three. Springville finally gained back the game's momentum and moved out to a 21-16 advantage. The Redhawks fought back and forced Springville to take a time out when they rallied to only trail by a score of 22-19. Springville eventually closed out the match with a 25-21 win to eliminating the Redhawks.

North Tama's Katie Kopriva led the team with 12 kills. Isabel Sierra scored 20 assists, and Takoa Kopriva tallied 23 of the 50 digs by the Redhawks.
