With less than a month to go before the 2019 college football season begins, Iowa and Iowa State have jointly made history.

For the first time ever, the rival in-state programs are both ranked among the nation's top 25 teams in a preseason survey. The USA Today Amway Coaches Poll released on Thursday features Iowa at No. 19 and Iowa State at No. 24.

It's an unprecedented preseason honor for the Cyclones, while the Hawkeyes have been listed among the nation's top 25 teams prior to the start of a season 22 previous times -- most recently in 2016.

Fans of both teams should have plenty to be excited about, especially if Iowa and Iowa State meet or surpass expectations.

Iowa State is expected to finish third in the Big 12 Conference race, following back-to-back eight-win campaigns. Coach Matt Campbell's ended its 2018 campaign with an 8-4 mark, despite a disappointing 1-3 start to the season. Iowa State's last game was a 28-26 setback to Washington State in the Alamo Bowl in December.

Iowa has been picked for a second-place finish in the Big Ten West Division, behind Nebraska. The Hawkeyes are coming off a 9-4 campaign in 2018, a season that ended with a 27-22 win over Mississippi State in the Outback Bowl on New Year's Day.

Coach Kirk Ferentz is starting his 22nd season at Iowa. The Hawkeyes open their 2019 campaign with back-to-back home games against Miami of Ohio on Aug. 31 (6:30 PM) and Rutgers on Sept. 7 (11 AM) at Kinnick Stadium.

Iowa State opens the season with an 11 AM home game against UNI at Jack Trice Stadium, then has a bye week.

The annual Cy-Hawk game between Iowa and Iowa State is scheduled to kick-off at 3 PM on Sept. 14 in Ames.
