Do you plan on celebrating Valentine’s Day? Be honest, it’s the holiday most people complain about and spend way too much money on. According to Business Insider, fewer Americans plan on celebrating the holiday than ever before. Only 51% said they plan on celebrating and yet Americans are spending more money than ever on Valentine’s day gifts.

How does this make sense? Well, Americans are expected to spend over $20.7 billion on Valentine’s day in 2019. This means that the average person is expected to spend about $160 on the holiday this year on classic items such as flowers, candy and jewelry.

Seriously?! Isn’t love supposed to be shown through personal actions not materialistic items? I am sorry, but there is no way I would spend that much money on a made-up holiday just to show them I care. Sorry, guys but if my actions are not already telling you I care then I don’t know how spending that much money would help.
