How Pool Tables Work Finally Explained

How does the table know the cue ball versus the color balls.

From putting your coins in the table at the bar, to the table knowing the difference between the cue ball and a color ball, finally how the table works.

I've played pool at bars a bunch of times and there's always that wonder of how the table knows to send the cue ball to one side of the table but then to send the other pool balls back to the display window by the coin slot.
