Wellington, FL- A woman is suing a hospital because of an extra operation.
Maureen Pacheco went in for spinal surgery in April 2016. She left without one of her kidneys.
Pacheco met with Dr. Ramon Vazquez prior to her procedure. Vazquez’s job was to cut her open so her orthopedic surgeons could perform the delicate back operation. While prepping Pacheco for surgery, Dr. Vazquez noticed something suspicious.
He removed the mass, thinking it was a cancerous tumor...when it was actually one of Pacheco's kidneys. Dr. Vazquez never got consent to remove anything, and Florida’s Department of Health deemed the procedure "medically unnecessary."
An administrative complaint has been filed against Vazquez, who could have his medical license revoked. [Palm Beach Post]
Buckeye, AZ- A woman was dinged for DUI on Halloween.
Police say 41-year-old Veronica King was drunk behind the wheel of her SUV Halloween night, while taking six children trick-or-treating. Five of the kids inside the vehicle were under ten years old.
Officers say King smelled of alcohol and showed watery, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.
A breathalyzer test showed that King had a B.A.C. of 0.165%, double the legal limit. Police also found an open fifth of whiskey in her purse.
King was arrested on five counts of aggravated DUI. [CBS 5 - Phoenix]
Urbandale, IA- These parents don't seem to understand how "parenting" works.
22-year-old Brian McCrea Bozarth and 20-year-old Ashley King left their 9-month-old baby home alone while they went out drinking.
Police were sent to the home for a welfare check and found the baby inside a crib in the back bedroom, wearing one sock and a full diaper. Authorities believe the infant was home alone for about three hours.
Police contacted Iowa DHS and the child was placed with a family friend.
Bozarth & King have been charged with child endangerment. King also faces underage drinking charges. [KCCI]
