The Pet Lab Co. conducted a study on the most popular dog breeds in America and the state of Iowa, along with 37 other states all have one certain breed as the most searched for online. I don't think the number 1 most popular breed will be a huge shock to anyone but the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th most popular breeds all were a bit surprising in my opinion.

Most Popular Dog Breed in Iowa

If your family has added a Golden Retriever into the mix, your family has the most popular dog breed in Iowa, according to Pet Lab Co. Not only is the Golden Retriever the most popular in Iowa, but it's also the most popular in 37 other states. Every state you would consider in "the Midwest" has the Golden Retriever as the most popular as well.

Pet Lab Co commented on Golden Retrievers and their popularity wins by a landslide.

Whether people are looking to adopt, foster, buy or just browse through cute pictures online of dogs, it is clear to see the US is obsessed with our furry friends. It is interesting to see that the most popular breed across the country, the Golden Retriever, has popularity by a landslide with some of the most populated states opting for the charming breed.

According to Neater Pets, Golden Retrievers are generally good with kids, loyal, eager to please, easier to train, very active, and are known for having laid-back personalities. All of these traits won't apply to every single Golden Retriever but in general, families can expect most of these traits when looking to add a Golden into their lives.

The remaining top 5 most popular dogs were a bit of a surprise to me. There are some dogs on here that I'm not sure I've had one friend or family member own some of these. According to Pet Lab Co, in this order, these are the top 5 most popular dog breeds;

I was a bit surprised to not see the Labrador Retriever or some kind of Terrier make the top 5 most popular dog breeds in the U.S. but I have seen all 5 of these dogs at some point in my life.
