A La Porte City teenager is hospitalized with potential life-threatening injuries following a two-vehicle accident in Waterloo late Wednesday night (Aug. 8, 2018).

Noah Boyer, 17, was seriously hurt when the car he was driving on U.S. Highway 20/Iowa Highway 27 slammed into the side of a semi-trailer near the U.S. Highway 63 interchange around 10 PM, the Iowa State Patrol said. According to a crash report, Keith Miner, 45, of Creston, stopped the semi in the travel portion of the highway to pick-up part of a lost load. That's when Boyer's eastbound vehicle slammed into the right side of the semi's trailer at highway speed.

Boyer suffered serious injuries, which troopers described as “life-threatening”. The teenager was taken to a Waterloo hospital for treatment. He was later transported to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
