This is what America is all about and what we fight for.

This is my early vote for best story of the year. Micah Herndon was a Marine in Afghanistan who just ran in the 123rd Boston Marathon. Toward the end of the 26.2 mile race, his legs locked up but he refused to quit. Grabbing at his hamstrings and other parts of his legs, he crawled to the finish line. While he was crawling he kept repeated the 3 names of marines that died in Afghanistan: Mark Juarez, Matthew Ballard and Rupert Hamer. Herndon told Ohio newspaper Record-Courier, "I run for them. They are not here anymore. I am here, and I am able. I am lucky to still have all my limbs. I can still be active. I find fuel in the simple idea that I can run. Some cannot."

As soon as Herndon crossed the finish line, he was helped into a wheel chair and given medical attention. Herndon finished the race at 3 hours 38 minutes.
