Five medical marijuana dispensaries will open in Iowa on Saturday (December 1st), including one in Waterloo.

Iowa Cannabis Co. will be located on LaPorte Road near Crossroads Mall.

KCRG-TV reports that Iowa doctors can certify patients with one of several debilitating medical conditions, including cancer, multiple sclerosis, seizures, HIV, AIDS, Parkinson's disease and Crohn's disease.

In an interview with The Courier last March, Iowa Cannabis Co. representative Aaron Boshart said "all the products being sold will be pharmaceutical grade products regulated & approved by the Iowa Department of Public Health."

Sarah Reisetter, deputy director of the IDPH, told The Courier earlier this week that people might have misconceptions about what the dispensaries will provide:

"The products available...are not what most people think about when they think about marijuana — there won’t be smoking products, there won’t be joints, there won’t be edibles."

Dispensaries are also set to open in Council Bluffs, Davenport, Sioux City, and Windsor Heights.
