Midwest Retailer Building New Stores In Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids

A Midwest retailer plans to open a new store in Cedar Falls later this year.

Fleet Farm is building a 190,000-square-foot outlet at the intersection of U.S. Highway 20 and Iowa Highway 58. Work on the store got underway in December 2018 and has been on-going since then.

Once construction is complete, customers can expect to find a broad assortment of products. Fleet Farm sells everything from hunting and fishing gear to pet and farm supplies, outdoor equipment, household goods and home improvement items, clothes, shoes, auto parts, food and toys. In a press release, company officials said Tuesday that the Cedar Falls location will have a gas station and offer automotive services.

According to company officials, the store will employ over 200 people. Hiring is expected to begin when construction nears completion.

The new Cedar Falls store is one of two that Fleet Farm hopes to open in eastern Iowa in 2019. A similar store is also going up in Cedar Rapids, near the intersection of Iowa Highway 100 (Collins Road) and Edgewood Road Northeast.

Right now, there are three Fleet Farm stores in Iowa. They are located in Ankeny, Mason City and Sioux City.

Fleet Farm, headquartered in Appleton, Wis., began operations in 1955. The company currently operates 42 stores across the Midwest, but plans to nearly double the number of locations by 2023.
