The City of Waterloo is planning to kick-off this Labor Day holiday weekend with a downtown celebration Friday night (Aug. 31, 2018).

A full evening of music and entertainment is scheduled at the RiverLoop Amphitheatre, 225 Commercial St. Also on the agenda is what officials are calling an "extra spectacular" fireworks display to make up for the My Waterloo Days and Mayor's Independence Day Extravaganza fireworks shows that were rained out earlier this year.

"The Mayor's Fireworks Labor Day Kick-off" begins at 5:30 PM with RiverLoop Rhythms concert series hosting the Uniphonics. A lighted boat parade will set sail at 9:30 PM, followed by fireworks over the Cedar River 30 minutes later. After the fireworks, Sugarfoot is scheduled to perform from 10:30 PM to midnight.

The entire event is free. Food vendors will be on-site, so coolers will not be permitted.

Organizers discourage bring pets to the event.
