Fire alarms went off at the Isle Casino Hotel Waterloo, forcing the main floor and its restaurants to be evacuated Saturday night (Jan. 6, 2017).

Hundreds of patrons were cleared from the gambling floor. Several Waterloo Fire Rescue units responded to the casino around 6:50 p.m.

When they arrived, firefighters determined the incident was a false alarm. According to Battalion Chief Ben Petersen, someone manually pulled an alarm to alert firefighters after fire sensors went off. Petersen said when firefighters arrived, they determined the sensors malfunctioned. Firefighters then changed the sensors and reset the system.

The all-clear for patrons to return to the main floor was given around 7:30 p.m. Petersen said the evacuation was a precaution. The incident halted gambling at the Isle Casino Hotel Waterloo for about 45 minutes.
