I was a pretty good student as a kid, but even I needed a little nudge every now and then. My parents would reward me with $10 for every "A" and $5 for every "B" on my report card. However, I also had to give back $5 for every "C" or below. This seemed like a perfectly reasonable deal and I plan on doing the same thing when I have kids. But some parents TOTALLY disagree.

One of my friends had offered up this idea and her husband completely shot her down, saying that their daughter already earns an allowance from chores AND she's a straight-A student so you'd just be throwing money away.

I think this great motivation (especially with younger kids) is a pretty good way to prepare kids for the real world--if you work hard and do your work well, you'll make more money and have a better future.
