Robin Thicke and his ex-wife, Paula Patton, are embroiled in a heated custody battle over their 6-year-old son, Julian. The Los Angeles County Department of Child and Family Services is looking into allegations of child abuse after Thicke spanked his son.

According to E! News, Julian told a teacher at his school that Thicke (his dad) allegedly spanked him more than once. The school reported the incident to DCFS on Jan. 3 and the department launched an investigation. Patton then filed an emergency order asking a judge to restrict Thicke’s time with his son to monitored daytime visits only.

Thicke fired back with a motion, denying any wrongdoing in parenting his child. "On a very rare occasion and only as a last resort, I will use light spanking, but it is consistent with the law - open hand on the butt,” he stated in his court papers. “This is the type of discipline to which Paula and I agreed during our marriage."

The Grammy-nominated also claims that his ex holds a grudge towards his family, which is why her or her family was not allowed to attend the funeral of his late father, Alan Thicke, last month. "Paula did not have a positive relationship with my father and often made negative comments to me about my father. As such, she was not welcome at his funeral,” he stated.

On Thursday morning (Jan. 13), a judge has denied Patton's request to limit Thicke's joint custody agreement. However, the L.A. Department of Children and Family Services case is still ongoing.
