A weekend accident in Grundy County sent seven people to the hospital with various injuries.

Sheriff's officials said Raymond Abwe, 20, of Des Moines, lost control of the SUV he was driving westbound on slush-covered U.S. Highway 20 Saturday afternoon. The vehicle rolled in the median and spun in the opposite direction, ejecting one of six passengers.

According to authorities, all six of Abwe's passengers were also from Des Moines. Officials identified them as: Eto Itabelo, 19; Deodonne MFaume, 19; Andrea Mulemba, 19; Ferdinand Alobo, 17; Rhehma Marguerite, 19; and Shukuru Mulemba, 16.

All seven people were taken to the hospital in Grundy Center to be treated for various injuries. Deputies said Shukuru Mulemba was ejected from the the SUV and was later transferred to a Des Moines hospital.

The crash happened shortly after 3 PM Saturday near mile marker 187, about three miles northwest of Wellsburg. The accident remains under investigation by Grundy County sheriff's officials.
