Authorities are investigating a two-vehicle crash that injured two teenagers near Winthrop Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 23, 2018).

Buchanan County sheriff's officials said a 17-year-old male driver suffered serious injuries in the accident, which happened around 4:30 PM. He was flown by helicopter to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City to be treated. A 15-year-old female passenger suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Independence hospital.

According to sheriff's officials, the teens were in a car that collided nearly head-on with a farm combine on Slater Avenue near 200th Street in rural Buchanan County. Sheriff's officials say the combine was operated by Donald Cook of Lamont, who was treated at the scene.
