Waterloo police have confirmed that a man injured in an early morning shooting last week has died.

In a news release, police said 32-year-old Alejandro Franco died of a single gunshot wound on Saturday. He was being treated at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

According to police, an autopsy will be conducted by the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of death.

Officers were called to an apartment house at 824 W. 8th Street just after 1 AM Friday and discovered Franco suffering from a single gunshot wound when they arrived.
