60-year-old Robert Brandel set up a Super Bowl Squares pool online that cost $500 per square. There are 100 boxes, so that means a total of $50,000 was in the pot. He bought some of the squares himself, but didn't win. Which was problematic...because the entire thing was actually a huge scam.

He sold less than half of the squares to real people, and made up the rest of the names. But real people won all the money. So, to avoid paying them...he faked his own kidnapping.

Someone called 911 last week after seeing Brandel bound inside of his truck. He told police that two men held him up at gunpoint and stole all the money from the football pool. Cops realized the story was bogus and arrested him.

Brandel's been charged with scheme to defraud and falsely reporting an incident. [WGRZ-TV]

Sarah O'Doherty was working at a sporting goods store in 2016, and one day she was taking some stuff out to the recycling bins with a co-worker. The co-worker said something funny, O'Doherty laughed...and whacked her head against a metal sheet.

She sustained a laceration on her forehead, and wound up with a permanent scar and concussion-like symptoms, so she filed a damages claim against the store.

A judge just dismissed O'Doherty's case...because of the joke. She ruled that O'Doherty wouldn't have struck her head if she'd been paying attention to her work. [Irish Times]

Ana Luisa Guity-Baltazar ordered an apple pie at McDonald's last week.

The clerk told her she'd have to wait about five minutes for a fresh pie. Apparently, Ana Luisa had stuff to do and couldn't possibly wait that long, so she demanded she get the pie for free. When the employee said no, Guity-Baltazar went into a rage.

Employees say she started screaming and shouting profanities, and advanced towards them aggressively. Police showed up and arrested Guity-Baltazar for disorderly conduct.

The apple pie cost $1.06. The citation? $837. I'll let you decide if it was worth it. [FOX 5 - Atlanta]

I don't know about you, but I sure do HATE it when I have to wait to get hot, fresh food.
