Authorities have pulled a body from the Waspipinicon River in Buchanan County.

The body was discovered near the Cutshall Access about two miles northwest of Littleton around 7:30 p.m. Thursday (June 15, 2017). Black Hawk County sheriff's officials said a 911 call came into dispatch after the body was spotted. The call was then forwarded to Buchanan County, and deputies from both departments responded.

Black Hawk County sheriff's officials said the body of an adult female was recovered from the river, but they weren't able to positively confirm the victim's identity. The body has been sent to the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office in Ankeny for an autopsy.

For the past three weeks, Black Hawk County sheriff's officials have been investigating the disappearance of a Waterloo woman. People have been searching the river and surrounding land looking for Rhonda Apfel, 47, who went missing late last month. On May 28, her unattended motorcycle was found parked along the Wapsipinicon River at the Bruggemann Wildlife Area northeast of Dunkerton.
