UNI Beats North Texas; Extends Win Streak To Five
The UNI Panthers extended their win streak to five-straight games with a 93-70 victory over North Texas at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls Monday night (Nov. 30, 2015).
The Panthers (5-1 overall) overcame a two-point halftime deficit and blitzed the Mean Green in the second half, 52-27.
Both squads blistered the nets during the game with UNI shooting 55.6 percent and North Texas hitting 51.9 percent. The Mean Green cooled off in the second half making 35.7 percent of their shots, after draining 18-of-26 (69.2 percent) in the first half.
The Panthers used a 17-4 run in the second half to turn a 49-49 tie into a 66-53 lead with 11:40 left in the game. UNI capped an 18-3 run with 3:36 left in the game on a Matt Bohannon three-pointer, which extended the Panthers' lead to 84-62.
Sophomore center Bennett Koch led UNI in scoring, notching a career-high 18 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor and 8-of-10 shooting at the foul line. Koch added five rebounds, an assist and a blocked shot.
Junior guard Jeremy Morgan also stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, eight rebounds, three steals, two blocks and an assist for the Panthers. Bohannon followed with 16 points, draining 6-of-8 from the field.
The Panthers, coming of a 97-51 victory at North Dakota on Saturday, scored 90 or more points in back-to-back games for the first time in 22 years. The last time UNI scored that many points consecutively was the 1993-94 season, when the Panthers posted a 92-72 win over Bradley and a 102-79 victory at Drake.
